Step 1. Start with a box of plain cake donuts.
Step 2. Melt chocolate chips. If using the microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until melted. If using the stove, bring a small saucepan of water to boil, place a glass bowl on top (making sure it doesn’t touch the water), add chips and stir continuously until melted. Spread a thin layer of melted chocolate over each donut.
Step 3. Sprinkle donuts with a layer of toasted coconut. To toast your own, spread an even layer of sweetened shredded coconut on a sheet pan and bake at 350 degrees until golden brown and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
Step 4. Add your favorite chocolate egg-shaped candies to the center of the nest.
Arrange bird nests on a festive platter and serve as the centerpiece of your Easter brunch!
