Ingredients

> 2 cups all-purpose flour
> 1/2 cup table salt
> 3/4 cup water
> Holiday cookie cutters
> Ribbon or string

Steps

1
Preheat oven to 250°F. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and water. Using hands, knead to bring dough together. Knead 3–5 min., until dough is smooth.
2
Place dough between 2 pieces of parchment. Roll out to an even ¼-inch thickness. Using 3.5-inch cookie cutters, cut out shapes and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet, rerolling and cutting until all the dough is used. Use a skewer to poke a hole on top of each ornament (for adding a ribbon after baking).
3
Bake 1 hour 30 min.–2 hours, until firm to the touch. Let cool completely, then decorate as desired. Thread a ribbon or string through each hole and tie together. Hang the ornaments on your tree, but don’t eat them—they aren’t edible!

Tips

You can make and bake the ornaments ahead for decorating at your party, or make the cutouts with guests for them to bake at home and decorate later.
