Spicy Mango Dirty Soda

With roots in Utah, dirty sodas combine soda, flavored syrups, and cream to make a sweet, fizzy concoction you won’t be able to put down. Here, a Tajín rim and fruity mango syrup with a touch of heat help cut some of the sweetness of the cola. We recommend starting with the lower amounts of the syrup and half & half and adding more to taste to find your ideal ratio.

For the homemade mango syrup;

> 1/2 (16 oz) bag frozen mango chunks, thawed
> 1/2 cup granulated sugar
> 1 tsp Tajin

For the drink;

> 1 lime, halved, divided
> 3 tbsp Tajin
> Ice, as needed
> 4 cups Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, chilled
> Homemade mango syrup, as needed
> Half & half, as needed

Steps

1
Make the syrup: To a medium pot, add the mango chunks (plus any juices), sugar, and ½ cup water. Heat on medium and simmer 4–6 min., until mango is very soft and begins to break down, mashing fruit with the back of a spoon occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool briefly. Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a jar, pressing with back of spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard any solids. Stir the Tajín into syrup. Let cool to room temperature, then cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
2
To make the dirty soda, run ½ lime around the rim of 4 tall glasses. Place the Tajín onto a small plate. Dip rim of each glass into Tajín to evenly coat.
3
Fill glasses with ice. Add 1 cup cola and 2–3 tsp mango syrup to each glass, stirring to combine. Slowly pour in 1–2 tbsp half & half per drink. Cut remaining lime half into wedges and use to garnish glasses.
