Ingredients
>
1/4 cup baking soda
>
1 (16 oz) bag refrigerated white pizza dough, room temperature
>
8 hot dogs
>
1 large egg, beaten
>
Toppings: sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning and coarse salt
>
Cooking spray
>
2 tbsp unsalted butter
>
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
>
1 1/4 cups milk
>
1 (8 oz) bag shredded mild Cheddar cheese
Steps
1
Fill a large pot three-fourths with water. Add baking soda and bring to a boil over high.
2
Meanwhile, place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll into a 9x12-inch rectangle. Cut dough along short side into 8 equal strips. Wrap dough strips around hot dogs and pinch dough onto itself to stick.
3
Once water is boiling, gently drop in 4 hot dogs and cook 1 minute, turning gently as they cook. Using a slotted spoon, transfer hot dogs to a paper towel-lined dish. Repeat with remaining hot dogs.
4
Brush beaten egg over dough. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, or coarse salt.
5
Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Lightly coat basket with cooking spray. In batches if necessary, place pretzel dogs in basket. Air-fry until golden brown and puffed, 8–10 minutes.
6
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt butter over medium. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cheese. Mix until melted. Season with salt and pepper. Serve on the side with hot dog pretzels.
Tips
To bake in the oven: Preheat to 425°F and bake the wrapped hot dogs on a parchment-lined baking sheet until golden and crisp, 12–15 minutes.
