Ingredients

> 1 1/4 lbs 80% lean ground beef
> PAM ® Grilling Spray
> 4 slices American cheese
> 4 tbsp store-bought barbecue sauce
> 4 Nature's Own ® Perfectly Crafted® Brioche Style Hamburger Buns
> 1/2 cup crispy fried onions

To Serve (Optional):

> Lettuce slices
> Onion slices
> Tomato slices

Steps

1
Set grill or grill pan to medium-high. Divide the beef into 8 equal balls. Set a 12-inch cast-iron skillet on grill or stovetop and coat with the grilling spray. Add 4 balls of meat and, using a metal spatula (or the bottom of a skillet), press down on each ball for at least 10 sec. to form a patty.
2
Season burgers with salt and pepper. Continue to cook 1–2 min. more, until the juices start to bubble. Using a metal spatula, flip burgers, scraping up any caramelization on bottom of pan. Divide 1 slice of cheese between 2 burgers in pan. Cover pan with a baking sheet and continue to cook 1–2 min. more, until cheese melts. Place the other 2 burgers in pan on top of cheeseburgers. Repeat with remaining beef and cheese.
3
To assemble, spread 1 tbsp barbecue sauce onto each bun. Add smash burgers and top with crispy fried onions. Serve with lettuce and tomato slices, if using.
