In a large pot, heat 6 cups salted water to a boil on high.

Add barley to pot. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 50–60 min., until barley is tender. Check water level after 25 min., adding more water, if needed.

Let barley stand, covered, 10 min. Drain, if needed.
