Ingredients

> 2 semi-tart apples
> 1 orange
> 1/4 cup dried cranberries
> 6 tsp granulated sugar
> 1/4 cup almond paste
> 17.3 oz package frozen puff pastry, cut into 12 5 x5 inch squares
> 1 egg

Steps

1
Preheat oven to 400ºF.
2
Peel the apples. Remove the cores and cut into ¼ inch cubes. Place the apple cubes in a large mixing bowl.
3
Scrub the orange well. Grate the orange. Add the zest, crumbled almond paste, cranberries and sugar to the apples. Mix together.
4
Place the thawed puff pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Divide the apple mixture among the 12 squares. Put the mixture on half the squares. Leave the edges free.
5
Beat the egg until blended. Brush onto the edges of the squares. Fold the pastry diagonally and seal the edges with a fork.
6
Use the remaining egg to brush the tops of the turnovers. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar.
7
Bake on the middle shelf of the oven for about 25 min until golden brown and done.
