Ingredients
>
Cooking spray
>
1 (16 - 18 oz) box brownie mix
>
1/3 - 2/3 cup canola oil, as needed
>
1 - 2 large eggs, as needed
>
Mini candy canes
>
Store-bought green cookie icing
>
Mini candy-coated chocolates, cinnamon candies, sprinkle balls, and/or sanding sugar, to decorate
Steps
1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9-inch round cake pan with foil and lightly coat with the cooking spray. Make brownie batter according to package directions, using the mix, canola oil, eggs, and water as needed. Transfer batter to prepared pan and spread into an even layer. Bake 35–40 min., until a toothpick inserted 1 inch from the edge comes out almost clean. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
2
When completely cool, use foil to lift brownies onto a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, cut brownies into 8 slices, then cut off bottom rounded edges to form triangles (save scraps for snacking). Carefully break curved ends from the mini candy canes and insert sharp ends into short sides of brownies for “trunks.” Decorate trees with icing, candies, sprinkles, and sanding sugar, if desired. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Tips
For clean slicing, chill the brownies for 30 min. after cooling completely.
