German Mulled Wine

This warm, festive holiday drink, called Glühwein in Germany, is the perfect pick for winter holiday parties. Garnish with orange slices and whole cinnamon sticks.

Ingredients

> 3 medium oranges, plus slices to garnish
> 10 - 15 whole cloves
> 3 cinnamon sticks, plus more to garnish
> 1 bottle dry or semi-dry red wine
> 2 bags cinnamon spice herbal tea
> 2 tbsp maple syrup

Cut 1 orange into thin rounds. Press the cloves into the rinds of the orange slices. To a large pot or Dutch oven, add the cinnamon sticks. Toast 2–4 min. on medium, stirring continuously. To pot, add the wine, juice of remaining 2 oranges, orange slices, tea bags, and maple syrup. Cover with lid and cook on low 30 min., stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat. Using a slotted spoon, remove the tea bags, orange slices, and cinnamon sticks. Pour into mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks and orange slices, if desired.
