Ingredients
>
1 pkg (16 oz) San Giorgio® Spaghetti
>
1/4 cup olive oil, divided
>
2 cloves garlic, sliced
>
1 jar (24 oz) strained puréed tomatoes (passata)
>
3/4 tsp salt, divided
>
3/4 tsp pepper, divided
>
12 oz lean ground beef
>
8 oz Italian sausage, casing removed
>
1/3 cup bread crumbs
>
1 egg, lightly beaten
>
4 oz mozzarella cheese block, cut into 16 cubes
>
1/4 cup fresh basil, torn
>
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
>
2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
Steps
1
Cook pasta according to package directions; drain, reserving 1/4 cup cooking liquid.
2
Heat 3 tbsp oil in high-sided skillet or large saucepan set over medium heat. Cook garlic for 2 to 3 minutes or until slightly softened. Stir in tomatoes, and 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper. Bring to boil; reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
3
Meanwhile, mix together beef, sausage, bread crumbs, egg, remaining oil, and remaining salt and pepper until combined. Roll into 16 (1 1/2-inch) balls. Press cube of mozzarella into each ball, wrapping meat around it, to completely cover and enclose cheese.
4
One at a time, drop meatballs into sauce. Cover and cook for 12 to 15 minutes or until meatballs are cooked through. Transfer meatballs to bowl. Reduce heat to low.
5
Toss together pasta, reserved cooking liquid, sauce and basil until well coated. Serve pasta topped with meatballs; sprinkle with parsley. Serve with Parmesan.
Tips
Use sweet or spicy Italian sausage, depending on preference.
